Released in January 2000, The Cider House Rules is a drifting drama of love and suffering, based on a novel of the same name, by John Irving.
The story focuses on an orphan called Homer, who gains the attention of the director of the orphanage, a certain Dr Larch. Homer learns the tricks of the medical trade, before heading off to an apple farm. Now that doesnt sound riveting does it? Boy grows up in orphanage, goes and picks apples. But Cider House Rules is a deceptive film.
