Reel Retro - Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet is what occurs when a vampire storyline boards an express train and that train hits the sci-fi genre and high speed: bits fly everywhere and it looks kinda cool when it happens, but afterwards everyone's left looking at the mess. With a poor reception, a hot lead actress, special effects that make you wish for less green screen and more acting, this film isn't to everyone's tastes.
Firstly I should digress and actually talk about the film; released in 2006, it is based on the premise of a cult classic novel called Gloria (with smacks of sci-fi added for taste?!) and is based around a heroine who after a global pandemic, gets treated really badly just because she's a bit of a vamp.
But she is a hot vamp so thats ok people. So the film really is just sequence are sequence of run and shoot, some dialogue about how it sucks to be different, but I cant help but feel Milla Jovovich didn't really act in this film, but rather took two percent of her character from Fifth Element and stretched it out for the 94 minutes. I actually thought I would give this a decent review because I like the film, but only in the sense that the imagery is unusual in its artistic approach and its use of stark colours to portray a bleak future is rather cool.
But therein lies the only positive. My recommendation, watch if you loved Aeon Flux and want to see how bad it could of been.
